June 1944. Allied Forces stand on the brink: a massive army is secretly assembled on the south coast of Britain, poised to re-take Nazi-occupied Europe. One man stands in their way: Winston Churchill. An impulsive, sometimes bullying personality; fearful, obsessive and hurting. Fearful of repeating, on his disastrous command, the mass slaughter of 1915, when hundreds of thousands of young men were cut down on the beaches of Gallipoli. Obsessed with fulfilling historical greatness: his destiny.

I thought this film was quite good – it portrays Churchill in a unique way; a human being with weaknesses and frailties and not just a commanding politician. Brian Cox is excellent as Churchill and he comes across rather eccentric and egotistical as the British Prime Minister. D Day is approaching in WWII and Churchill will not endorse it. He has fears of massive causalities because he supported and advocated for the Gallipoli beachfront assault during WWI which was a bloodbath for the allies. He then decides he should be on one of the invading ally ships, but no one wants him there. His wife, his King, British military personnel and American military personnel – General Dwight Eisenhower try to talk him out of it. The featurette in the extras comments that Churchill was a manic-depressive which was often fueled by his drinking. He is 70 years old at this time period and he has difficulty accepting old age and new ideas. People close to him try to convince him that the public needs his moral support and encouragement. The film does not idolize him, but tries to portray him and his personal complexities.

I was befuddled after about 20 minutes and decided to pause it and look online for reviews. This piece of crap would have you believe that Churchill was either senile or so afraid of casualties that he wanted to do away with the D-Day invasion. Almost all the reviews I read said that this movie was based on nothing historical and some even called the writer a loon. I did not finish it and you should definitely NOT watch it.
