I read the book of this series as well. The book wasn't as good this series. And with all honesty, this series looks upon many important issues in today society which should be looked upon. Many things that Hannah goes through are easily relatable, which is the part I liked about the series. Many characters in the book were, in my opinion, very well thought out. I totally recommend this series to teenagers and adults. I give this series a 4 out of 5 stars. -@terrificbooklover of the Teen Review Board at the Hamilton Public Library

I haven't read the book, so I have nothing really to compare it to. I do think this has some flaws, though:

1. I thought that the scene depicting Hannah's suicide was unnecessarily graphic. I've seen suicide shown in other shows and movies, and it was done a lot more sensitively. (The movie The Skeleton Twins, for instance - when Bill Hader's character attempts suicide the same way, it was a lot less graphic.)
2. I'm pretty sure Clay's mother would have to recuse herself from the civil suit, because her son was a student at the school.
3. The guidance counselor would have had pamphlets to give to Hannah regarding what she discussed with him. (I won't say what she told him; I don't want to spoiler.) He also would be a mandatory reporter of crimes.

There are some important topics that this series brings up, such as sexual harassment, rape, domestic violence, and the disturbing trend of spreading compromising photos among high school circles. But I think some things could have been handled better and, in some cases, more accurately.

I saw this on Netflix. This does a very good job of portraying the different perspectives, reactions and impacts of a tragedy. It is very easy to be dismissive on the basis of missed opportunities but there wouldn't be a compelling story if everything went as it should. You should finish it with a better idea of signs to look for and hopefully less inclination to do the same. A warning that there are some pretty graphic scenes and you should probably watch it before your teenage kids do.
