A young Jeffrey Dahmer struggles to belong in high school.
"A warped wonder of a movie about a cannibalistic serial killer's awkward teenage years-it takes twisted to areas few have investigated."--Rolling Stone.
"This film is sensitively wrought. It's credible in its evocation of mid-'70s suburbia. The acting is excellent throughout, and Ross Lynch in the role of Dahmer elicits genuine sympathy for an increasingly lost but not yet monstrous soul."--New York Times.
"It sees Jeffrey Dahmer for what he was: a young man who could express himself only through the most hideous violence. Yet it shows you that what he had to express was real."--Variety.

I just don't get it. Why is it that the first thing that former teen stars do when they are finally allowed to be adults is make a very adult movie, meaning one that is worlds away from their previous project? I get that they want to break out of their shell and do something more mature, but every time that happens it seems to crash. At least I think so anyway. Case in point, I would NEVER in a million years watch a movie like this. My husband (who passed away in January) would have found it interesting and I even mentioned it to him a few times and he said he would like to see it. I don't know if he would have liked it but I certainly didn't. I won't deny that Ross Lynch did a great job in this; very creepy and subdued and like I said it's worlds away from Austin Moon. Do not watch this with the expectation that you will see any resemblance to the teen sensation from Disney's "Austin and Ally" because you will find none. This movie sounded interesting because I don't know that much about Jefferey Dahmer but it felt like he was just being made fun of and teased during the whole movie. There was a fan club for him created by some kids who pretended to like him a lot, mainly for his odd outbursts in school that made it look like he was having a seizure or something. I thought that maybe that's what drove him to be the person he became but they never really said. Even the ending was just kind of like "figure it out for yourself" This is a very creepy movie that includes nudity but very little swearing.

This is what bad parenting can do to a persons life.

A compelling film when you think what shaped Dahmer to turn him into an eventual serial killer. Ross Lynch gives a great performance - plus the script showing Jeff's negotiating skills for a prom date, one more beer...and the ultimate "do you want to party" to a hitchhiker. I'll look for Derf's book - watch "Serial Killer Culture" in Surrey's inventory - a nice tie in if there ever was.....

Hello my friends
I have seen this movies 7 times and I have fallen in love with the main character more and more. I don't care about the movie itself, I care about the one and only Jeffrey Dahmer. Please watch this. You'll know what I mean. - Sebastian

If you're interested in Dahmer's early life, check out the graphic novel of My Friend Dahmer. It is a quick read and much more interesting than this movie adaptation.

Creepy. Skin crawling. Scary. Pure evil.

Not nearly as good as Derf's graphic novel of the same title. I'm not a graphic novel fan, but I read the engrossing, beautifully drawn "My Friend Dahmer" in one sitting. The DVD was boring enough that I turned it off halfway through.

Excellent, 5-star movie. It is honest throughout. The acting and the script are very authentic.

The film is so realistic that it reminded me of another highly authentic movie about a serial killer: "Henry: Portrait of A Serial Killer." The two titles could be viewed together as studies in pathology.

The director pulls his punches at several points so that we do not have to witness some horrific scenes, and the film benefits from this.

Perhaps my expectations were too high to begin with...but this move really seems to plod on. Some parts did not quite make sense and the pacing was a little too slow. It seems the director took a think script and tried stretching it to fit a full length movie. The result is a movie with more potential than actual impact. A bit of a disappointment.
