If this wasn't a live action recruiting poster to apply for Army special forces then I don't know what is. You got dashing handsome Chris Hemsworth playing the Captain facing down the Taliban with an assist from a stubborn Afghanistan Northern Alliance. John Wayne would have been proud. Still, with all the USA enthusiasm instilled in the movie I found war as entertainment worked in this movie. The movie did its job by making the special forces the heroes they are.

Shades of Rambo III! Horses.... young child fighter befriends a good guy....all the good guys survive....etc, etc. True story....OK. Played by an Australian. Give this one a pass.

As war films go this one is fairly well done. The Afghan battle ground is realistic, and so is the ground fire fights. The fact it is based on a true story makes it all the more engaging. I enjoy watching it.

Amazing that anyone would still want to see such a movie that after all we have come to know about the lies told to us.

There is no doubt that American men and women have given their lives fighting for the freedom of other countries WW1, WW2 etc. etc. But why is it Hollywood still makes these type of movie where it seems they are the only ones saving the planet.

This war film stands out from others because of the extensive air support to the joint operation by U.S. Army Special Forces and the Northern Alliance to capture Mazar-i Sharif, a strategic site under the Taliban control in Oct 2001, the first US military deployment in Afghanistan after 9/11.

Note: (Before the ending credits: "In 2012, to honor their extraordinary heroism, a statue of a Horse Soldier was dedicated at the World Trade Center site.") And from various sources: Originally commemorated by Vice President Joe Biden and Army Lt. Gen. John Mulholland on Veterans Day in 2011, the 18-foot bronze statue depicts a Green Beret soldier on horseback known as ‘Horse Soldier’ was installed inside the West Street Lobby of One World Financial Center opposite Ground Zero, and now rests in Liberty Park overlooking the National September 11 Memorial & Museum in New York City since Sep 14, 2016.

Overall, a good movie. Well acted by a top notch cast. There were a few slow spots, but for a war film, that is sometimes real - there are lulls in the action/adrenaline. Not sure that was deliberate by the film-makers though. They put a little bit of the "politics" of the tribalism of Afghanistan into the film with one group embedded with one tribal leader and another group embedded with different tribal leader... and how that affected the tribal leaders' support of the US troops. It also gives you a bit of an understanding of how different warfare in the mountains of Afghanistan is. It was not incredibly thorough, which is probably for the best given the run time of a feature film. Overall, I enjoyed the film.

This was / is a very good movie true to what happened. If you watch the Special Feature : "12 Strong :The Making of an Impossible Mission" after you watch the movie you will learn a fair amount of the truth that they tried to portray in this movie. I mean they tried to make the scenes in the movie look as much as what happened in real life.

It was a good movie for a one about war. Supposedly a true story and if it is they were excellent solders that accomplished a lot. Lots of action for sure, B. J. liked it better than I did she said I fell asleep and missed 20 minuets. I have never really liked war movies so not a good person to make a judgement call. I am sure others will love it.

It is another in a long line of war hero movies released in the past 5 years. No character development but a lot of gore. If you've seen one of these types of post 9/11 movies you've basically seen them all. None of them add anything different to the characters or the villians. I was disappointed....again.

Opening narrative:
1 February 1993. A massive explosion ripping through the lower basement sections of the World Trade Center under tower number two. A terrorist bomb, how horrific a crime this is. August 1998. Our embassies in Nairobi and Dar es Salaam were bombed. The Bin Laden terrorist network was responsible. Suicide bombers blew a hole in the ship.
My prayers are with the families of those killed... at the explosion involving the U.S. naval vessel Cole. Hidden in the mountains of Afghanistan, Bin Laden planned these attacks. September 9th, 2001. Ahmad Shah Massoud, the leader of the Northern Alliance, was assassinated by two members of Al-Qaeda. Massoud's death destabilized the Northern Alliance, removing the only threat to the Taliban's power in Afghanistan.

The Russians have been here before, right? They've done this. And they wrote about it.
They said the snow was shutting down all the mountain passes by mid-November. Every year, without fail. Now, if the Russians are talking about a bad winter, it's usually worth paying attention to, isn't it?
===
We're gonna drop in behind enemy lines, link up with a warlord of the Northern Alliance,
General Abdul Dostum. We'll assist him in fighting the Taliban and taking back the city of Mazar-i-Sharif, which happens to be the stronghold and linchpin for the entire northern Taliban force. Now if we don't take that city, the whole country will turn into
a goddamn terrorist training camp. World Trade Center's just the beginning. They're not finished with us yet.

Captain. The most important thing a man can take into combat is a reason why. This (a peice of metal from ground zero) is from the towers. You carry that with you. Five weeks ago, 19 men attacked our country. The 12 of you will be the first ones to fight back. Go win this thing.

Tiangi Gap is over two kilometers long. Razzan's best weapons are right here. Machine guns, mortars, heavy armors. And right here is 055 Brigade. Foreign fighters. Al-Qaeda.
They won't give an inch. They prefer death. I won't let my men die so Atta can go to Mazar first.
-This isn't just your war, General. There are thousands of people dead in your country and mine.

Your anger comes from your fear because you live in a place where life looks better than afterlife. That's not this place. Here, Taliban kills everything you live for. Your mission will fail because you fear death. Mullah Razzan's men, the Taliban, they welcome it. Because they believe there is riches waiting for them in Heaven.
-Give me the goddamn information I need, and I'll reward every last one of them. General, I'm your link to the greatest weaponry in the history of civilization. You gotta stop guarding me and start trusting me.
Greatest weapon in history is this (pointing to his heart.) I don't have soldiers in my army, not one. Only warriors. Stop being a soldier.
