Follow the sisters Meg, Jo, Beth, and Amy, on their journey from childhood to adulthood. Under the guidance of their mother Marmee, they navigate what it means to be a young woman: from gender roles to sibling rivalry, first love, loss, and marriage. Based on the novel by Louisa May Alcott, this story is as relevant and engaging today as it was on its original publication in 1868.

Excellent movie, I highly recommend it

If you like the book you should enjoy this depiction, as it follows the novel quite closely. I'm surprised at some of the negative comments - I thought the cinematography was amazing, and that the actors did a great job of depicting the subtle nuances of their characters in the short time available. Realistically, Little Women is not a book that has transcended time well in terms of feeling current today, but that need not take away from the pleasure of watching it.

I thought there was a lot of over-acting going on. The production also seemed a bit low budget in some of the scenes.

Emily Watson very good as the mother. This moves quite slow. Hard to get into it until about halfway through the second episode. We finally got into it and went to put the second disc in, only to find there are only 3 episodes (all on one disc). The ending was THAT abrupt! We felt unsatisfied after all the patience we had used to get thru the first half.

I loved this! The acting was great in my opinion and beautiful cinematography.

Only made it through the first hour, not a good series, acting was terrible. Stick to the original Little Women if you want to see it.

A half star each for Emily Watson, Michael Gambon, and the wonderful Angela Lansbury bringing something good into this disappointing miniseries. I thought it was dreadful otherwise.

A beautiful and atmospheric retelling of Louisa May Alcott's classic book about four sisters in Civil War Massachusetts. The quality of the acting is top-notch, and the leads are well-cast. Be prepared to cry buckets over Beth (as always), and fall in love with Meg, Jo, Beth, Amy, and Laurie all over again. If you enjoyed the recent Masterpiece remake of Anne of Green Gables, this will hit a similar note.

Very well made. I wasn't entirely sold on the March family being impoverished, but their outfits did not seem out of place at all. I will add the book and the other editions to my lists and tackle them in due time.

I actually watched this in it's original airing on PBS. I enjoyed it. Since I've yet to read the book this opinion may not matter much, but I was glad to see Jo played by someone other than W. Ryder.
