I haven’t read the book yet, but the movie was good. Anyone who likes video games will probably enjoy it.

It's decent if you haven't read the book, a disappointment otherwise.

Book was way better, made me disappointed they changed the story so much for the film

If you have NOT read the book this is a good film on it's own. If you have read the book you will most likely be disappointed. Many of the details that made me love the book are missing.

This book was terrible, so I can only assume the movie is bad.

A very fan service film. Formulaic and predictable. They spent more on licensing than on writing.

Its a really average movie. It was formulaic and predictable. It wasnt a bad movie, but it didnt try anything new. Audio and visuals were pretty good though.

We both loved this part live action, part animation film that is truly up to the Spielberg name for some of the most detailed computer generated films to come out in a long time. Brilliant attention to detail leaving you wondering where the animation begins and live action ends. Brilliant! Excellent story of boy meets girl fighting a resistance war against the bad guys who want to rule what's left of our world. We watched it twice, the second time was even better as you miss so much the first time.

Produced and directed by Steven Spielberg in 2018 based on the 2011 novel of the same name by Ernest Cline, this American SF adventure film depicts the virtual reality software OASIS (Ontologically Anthropocentric Sensory Immersive Simulation) for gamers to escape the desolation of the real world.
Although special visual effects and dynamic animation appear super-duper, this story isn't my cup of green tea.

Parzival: Some people can read War and Peace and come away thinking it's a simple adventure story...
Art3mis: Others can read the ingredients on a chewing gum wrapper and unlock the secrets of the universe.

1% of the Brilliant Book is used. The Greatest mystery is why the book's author, Ernest Cline, helped savage it into the deranged and mutilated screenplay? Why was he complicit in Speilberg making a live action Wreck It Ralph / Goonies mashup that would INFURIATE the real Fans in the theater? I had to stop myself leaving the Theater multiple times, because I viewed it with friends. Such a Disappointment. Why write a Ready Player 2, only to be butchered into flashy garbage? Maybe he learned his lesson, or will once incensed Hardcore fans with Gunter tattoos rain down fusillades of stink bombs upon the traitorous Author's noggin, come his next book tour. Would have worked better as a limited series run on a well-moneyed streaming or cable channel. For Shame!!!
