I knew very little about the Pokemon universe, merely recognizing the critters themselves. Loved the look of the dozens of species, and seeing how they interacted with people in a city. This was reportedly the best part about the Detective Pikachu videogame, and they nailed it. Pikachu and the Bulbasaurs were almost painfully cute.

Pikachu was super cute, so fluffy, and those puss-in-boots eyes!
Story felt like a kids movie, not bad I guess, but not much subtlety...

Not just a cheap nostalgia cash grab! In fact, this is a delightful family film (though too intense for younger kids) with a fun mystery, some great humor, and excellent worldbuilding of a city where humans and Pokemon live side by side (i.e. my dream was 12 furiously grinding my way through Pokemon Blue on the Game Boy). The CG animation of the hundreds of different Pokemon featured in this film is incredible and I hope they make more of these.

Someone once described this movie to me as a cross between Pokemon and Deadpool, and it's the most accurate description I've heard of it because it is really hard to get Ryan's voice out of Pikachu's character but it is definitely a kid friendly movie.

I have this movie only a few days over do. I want to renew it,but then a I try to renew it. Then it says I can't renew it. I look on there an a crap ton of people want this move. 90 people have a hold on it. What the hell. The movie isn't even that good.

Let me begin by saying that this movie was marvellous. This fantasy/mystery movie will please all Pokémon lovers out there! Ryan Reynolds had done an amazing job voicing Pikachu and adding that little kick of humour, even if it was inconsistent. Pikachu was as if he was over caffeinated and it sometimes threw the tempo of the movie off a bit. I think Pikachu would definitely have that sort of personality, but I felt that the rest of the movie went by really slowly. A few changes to the story to make it a bit more interesting, but there are no complaints other than that! I would rate it a 3 out of 5 stars.

Was a really fun watch that really hit the spot. I am not really into the whole Pokemon thing, but the way the movie was constructive was just well made, great cinematography and I liked the diversity that mixed race Justine Smith was used as the lead character. The movie reminded me a bit about Zootopia (2016) as certain story-elements resonate strongly with that movie. I probably won't re-watch but glad I gave it a shot.

I liked the movie. It had a lot of action, it was a hilarious, and it also had family relationships as part of the storyline. This movie was like watching the pokemon shows that we grew up with from our childhood back in the day. Plus I have also seen this movie twice now and it was Awesome. Ryan Reynolds was hilarious as detective Pikachu with all the catchphrases and line in the movie. Plus the chemistry he had with Kathryn Newton and Justice Smith was pretty awesome in the movie.

Maybe you have to be someone who's played the video games and know the stories, but I was unimpressed. Ryan Reynolds is sharp and funny, as always, delivering lines with impeccable comic timing, and the animation was good, but otherwise I found little to keep me interested.

If you wanted a pokemon based on the cartoon renditions of the video games and animated movies - this live action edition of the pokemon world is going to through that desire into hyperdrive! I really hope more movies come out and explore more of the world and even more pokemon, because this was so well done and I wanted to see more of Ryme City!

Tim Goodman: [trying to impress her] Well, I'm actually pretty good at being alone at night.
