From 1958 to 1963, American actor Rick Dalton knew the height of fame and fortune as the lead in the television series Bounty Law. Yet, Rick wasn't satisfied with the work and used his popularity to try to become a movie star. By 1969, Rick's career has stalled so much that he takes jobs as a guest star on various shows. He even starts wondering if the only way he can make a comeback is by acting in Italian productions. Cliff Booth, Rick's long-time friend and stunt double, helps him see that possibilities for success still exist in the Los Angeles film industry if they work together.

I like this movie because of the ending which is a revenge for what Charles Manson and his neo-Nazi gang did to Sharon Tate who was 9 months pregnant! Quentin is very imaginative and courageous in making this movie.

I really liked this movie, if you are unfamiliar with what happened with the Manson family I would suggest doing a little reading about that before watching this movie, as it is a reimagining of those events. I suspect not knowing about the Manson family events is what is behind most of the negative reviews here.

I found the movie be interesting and even smart except the ending, where (traditionally) Tarantino failed to make anything inspiring or intellectually food for thoughts
Tarantino is a master of movie flow, but on the other site he is not very intellectual
I especially loved atmosphere of hot summer of 1968-1969, that was well done, I believe
just the ending - he probably didn't know how to make it and was very disappointing

I really liked this movie. So often you never know what to expect from Tarantino and that can be said here, and again he has his own way of re-writing the history books. The story revolves around the failing career of actor Rick Dalton but its Brad Pitts performance as Cliff Booth that carries it. Everything he does in this movie he makes it look effortless. From throwing Bruce Lee off a car to casual conversation with a young hippy girl to being spaced out from an acid soaked cigarette Pitt is the star. With a storyline that's easy to follow the only thing I didn't like was how long it was. But there were the scenes with the Manson family members and gorgeous Margot Robbie as Sharon Tate that may have been left on the cutting room floor but were still enjoyable. Not as gorily violent as some of his other work, the scene near the end makes up for the lack of it. All around awesome.

Excellent movie. Very much a Hollywood Fairy Tale, hence the title, Once Upon A Time. This was one of Pitt's best movies. He played this part so well. The way the movie line drew you in with the Manson crime family and you were expecting some of the carnage that Sharon Tate actually experience but only this time, Pitt gives the carnage to them. Really well made.

I have to admit...the first time I tried to watch this movie a while back...I got bored and made it about 1/2 way through the movie, got bored and turned it off. VERY glad I gave it another shot. I paid closer attention this time...Lots of fun nostalgia for the older group. Very enjoyable. I liked Brad Pitt and Leonardo's performances. Thought I knew where the movie was going. Loved the ending.

Long and pointless.

Drugs, alcohol, mental disorder, narcissism, friendship.
As a director and writer Tarantino can channel his personal feeling through his movie.
To me this movie is an outdated 2019 movie and beating around the bush. Rather boring and pointless, what’s left to watch is Leonardo and Brad Pitt’s performances.

Bruce Lee: You're the one with the big mouth, and I would really enjoy closing it, especially in front of all my friends. But my hands are registered as lethal weapons. That means, we get into a fight, I accidentally kill you? I go to jail.

Cliff Booth: Anybody accidentally kills anybody in a fight, they go to jail. It's called manslaughter. I think all that lethal weapon horseshit is just an excuse so you dancers never have to get in a real fight.

46 quotes posted in IMDb already. Thanks to its contributors. The best lines come from the brilliant little woman Trudi Fraser (Julia Butters):

I believe it's the job of an actor - and I say actor, not actress because the word actress is nonsensical - it's the actor's job to avoid impediments to their performance. It's the actor's job to strive for one hundred percent effectiveness. Naturally, we never succeed, but it's the pursuit..that's meaningful.

That was the best acting I've ever seen in my whole life.
-Thank you.

I don't like names like 'Pumpkin Puss'... but since you're upset, we'll talk about it some other time.

***If you want more of the wise-beyond-her-years Trudi, watch one of the deleted scenes when Trudi welcomes her two step-brothers (Timothy Olyphant as James Stacy and Luke Perry as Wayne Maunder) who have just ridden in town from a wagon.
