The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton is an action pact book with action and plot twists, that I wasn’t at all expecting. The book taking place in the 50s was probably the coolest part for me as most of the books I read were all in the 21st century! It’s pretty cool reading a book that’s been around a long time. The story follows a gang, which I found it quite heart warming knowing that they may seem tough, but they all secretly have a soft spot for each other. I have to admit, the names in this story were pretty funky. It may have been the time period, I’m not sure, but Sodapop? I didn’t really like that too much. In addition to the action, you must know before you read this book there are deaths and some gory chapters that’s aren’t to pleasant to read, but they add so much more to the story, which makes it impossible to put down. It’s an incredible story that I think every teen would enjoy! @AnythingYellow14 of the Teen Review Board at the Hamilton Public Library The Outsiders is a novel that follows the story of two rival gangs, the Socs, and the Greasers. The Socs are wealthier, and more preppy. The Greasers however, are more poor, and seem to be outcasts, not fitting in anywhere. The two gangs are rivals because they do not understand each other. The novel is told in first person in the view of Ponyboy Curtis. I read this when I was younger, and it taught me about violence and prejudice. Personally, I think this is a must read for all teenagers, because of what it teaches them. I rate this book a 5/5. @Gummibee11 of the Teen Review Board at the Hamilton Public Library I just read The Outsiders for the first time earlier this year, after hearing about it a while ago, and I absolutely loved it. I loved all of the characters, especially Sodapop and Johnny. The Outsiders is a pretty small book, but it contains a huge story and plot and lots of characters. Prior to reading this book recently, I had never seen the movie and I haven’t read any other books by the author. So, in my completely unbiased opinion, The Outsiders is now one of the best books I have ever read and is definitely in my top 5 favourite books. I would highly recommend reading this novel, and I rate this book 9.5/10 stars. @bookaholic of the Hamilton Public Library's Teen Review Board The Outsiders is such a classic book! I remember reading this book for an elementary school book report, and I enjoyed every minute of it. It's about the Socials, or Socs, and the Greasers; two groups that completely clash, and it follows a boy named Ponyboy, and his adventures as a Greaser. It's an adventure/action book with hints of comedy, heartbreak, and even a little romance here and there. Over the course of the book, you get to see Ponyboy grow up and face new challenges, which makes The Outsiders so interesting. I must say, S.E. Hinton did an amazing job of writing this novel. From page one to page one hundred and ninety-two, it is anything but boring; Ponyboy and the rest of the Greasers are always up to something. Although this book is great, it is slightly outdated, and younger readers might not understand some of the references made. All things considered, I give The Outsiders a 5/5! @peraltiago4ever of the Hamilton Public Library Teen Review Board
