This second entry in the Longmire series picks up about a month after the last case (A Cold Dish). The death of a resident at the Durant Home for Assisted Living is not just an ordinary death. Mari Baroja was poisoned. And she was worth a lot of money. And if that’s not enough, Mari had a relationship with Durant’s former sheriff, Lucian. Who killed Mari? Why? It’s up to Sheriff Walt Longmire to find the answers and survive yet another complex and harrowing murder investigation. I enjoyed this novel more than the first entry in the series. Now that the setting and characters have been established, Johnson is better able to focus on the mystery and the dialogue. A promising series.
