Craig Johnson's "Death Without Company" is a worthy sequel in the Longmire mystery series that continues the intriguing character arch's of the first novel in a superb fashion while at the same time giving more poetically vivid scene setting details and enthralling action with many excellent plot twists. The continuity of this novel off of the first entry in the Longmire mystery series ("The Cold Dish") is a joy to behold, by expanding upon character arch's and ongoing subplots Johnson successfully showcases that this is a series that readers will be encouraged and rewarded to invest themselves in. The supporting cast of new characters added in this novel are creative and memorable, they do enough to contribute to the overall story while at the same time not overshadowing the already established main characters. The plot twists are also a very strong and memorable part of the novel as they provide jaw dropping moments while never feeling unfair, instead they are all well thought out and conducted throughout the story. The biggest gain between this novel and the first entry however is that the action of this novel compared to the first one is a big step up in terms of intensity and in providing a faster reading pace. The faster pace is a welcome improvement in the series as the novel's action and plot-line provide a more thoroughly engaging experience. Overall I can highly recommend the Longmire mystery series to murder mystery enthusiasts, this is series where the characters feel down to earth and relatable, the action and plot-lines are thoroughly engaging, and the details provided give endless gorgeous imagery to behold.
