We don't know why he's mad we just know that he is really very MAD! At first he's "hopping mad" but rabbit feels he isn't properly hopping and teaches him how to do it right. This leads to a dunking in the closest mud puddle. Which doesn't help his attitude at all and now he's "stomping mad". But bear points out the correct method for stomping which lands Mouse in the mud yet again. OK... now he's "SCREAMING MAD". Guess where Mouse ends up? Yup. Mud. After two more escalations (and dunkings) Mouse reaches the ultimate in Mousey rage. He is "Standing-still mad". His utter stillness is inspiring to the other animals who all try to match his frozen fury with no success. And then it's done. Mouse figures out that he's not mad anymore and moves on to the next thing... a much needed bath. Mouse Was Mad is such fun to act out with young children! They understand how Mouse feels, having been there themselves, and acting it out is pure entertainment. The artwork is bold, bright and full of facial expressions worthy of emulation. Linda Urban hit the mark perfectly with her very first picture book and I can't wait to see what else she's got for us.
