This is story jumps around in history so is a bit confusing that way. The back story is the uncovering of a devastating family history which makes it very sad in parts. The story taking place in the book's present is a bit of a mystery/thriller set in a very feminist/egalitarian world, with women in many positions of power and people of different ethnicities, sexual orientation and religions well represented. It was quite a good read though sometimes hard to keep track of all the characters.
