This book "Maze Runner" is part of a 5 book series by James Dashner and this book is where the whole series begins. The main character is Thomas, who is the one that wakes up in a box that lifted him up into the "Glade". At first, Thomas is confused as to where he is because most of his memory was wiped out when he woke up. A couple of the "Gladers" (which are the people of the Glade) told Thomas that he was now stuck in a gigantic maze with the rest of them and to escape the Glade, they had to escape the maze which isn't that easy because the maze consists of "Grievers" that are deadly monsters that live in the maze. There are also times where the maze walls open and close and the walls inside the maze shift randomly every day making it impossible to create a route to the exit of the maze. With all of this information that Thomas has, throughout the book, Thomas and the rest of the Gladers try to understand the maze more and slowly plan their route towards the end. In my opinion, this book is a must-read book because it has all sorts of elements to it that make it worth a book to read. For example, there are many characters in this story that have personal backgrounds that the book mentions about and they also express each character's emotions and feelings that most readers can relate or make a connection to. This book also follows a very good journey of life in the Glade and keeps you following the journey as well. I highly suggest reading this book and maybe even the whole series. 5 out of 5. @Self-Disciplined of the Teen Review Board at the Hamilton Public Library Thomas woke up in a crowded elevator, remembering nothing but his name. When the elevator doors open, Thomas is exposed to a whole new world led by teenage boys called the Glade. As far as they all remember, the Glade is all they know. Since Thomas' appearance, the Gladers begin to discover things lurking beneath the surface. Products of nuclear war, the first ever Glader girl, and finally escaping the Maze. This is a book you read for a quick read and a good adventure. Throughout the book, you keep getting drawn in by the alluring mystery while you ask yourself the same questions: when, why and how. I loved the use of Glader vocabulary sprinkled in every chapter, it really helped me immerse myself. The dystopian world itself was something I hadn't thought of before. Though this book has its fair share of flaws. Come of the characters were a bit flat, though they delve into it more into the series. Also, Thomas had a sense of "The Perfect Protagonist." Other than his dangerous curiosity, which is something all protagonists have, he doesn't actually have any flaws. Ignoring that, it's a good read, I strongly suggest it. - @Spectacles of the Teen Review Board at the Hamilton Public Library This was a book which was very descriptive and had lots of adventure in it. There was almost action in every part of the book and it was well written. The way the group of teenagers tried to solve the way to get out of the maze was incredible. Personally my favourite character is Newt because he seems like a nice guy and acts as a good leader as well. There are more challenges to overcome, but I don’t think that will be a problem for Thomas and his friends to overcome. The grievers were pretty scary based off of their descriptions in the book. It was very surprising how Thomas got one to die. Because of that, I think that is how he earned his respect among the others. - @redninam of the Teen Review Board of the Hamilton Public Library
