Honestly, this book was just boring. A cliche boy wants a cliche dog. Whoop-dee-freaking-doo. But wait! He gets a guinea pig that acts like a dog! What a twist! Except it was LITERALLY REVEALED IN THE TITLE. The author then proceeds to act as if the boy (I forgot his name, probably because he has no character traits) figuring this out is some huge revelation. They make this the main plot, even though the readers already know what's going to happen! Not to mention that the author's forgotten the meaning of subtlety. The guinea pig acts like a stereotype of a dog. I honestly think that the author has never seen a dog or a guinea pig in real life, but has only heard of them in legends. No research went into this book, the characters are tropes, and the plot is dull at best. I'm not even discussing the author's continued ignorance of responsible rodent ownership! This is probably a children's book, but any child would rather read a story that the author has put effort into. Why do you think the Harry Potter books are so popular? Children's books are not just simpler adult's books. They require just as much thought, if not more, as an adult novel.
