A United Kingdom features an interracial relationship between Ruth Williams a white British clerk and Seretse Khama, who was from the most powerful Botswana tribe. It is difficult to imagine there was a time when there was controversy over an interracial marriage, but in the 1940s this was a reality. This relationship started a political storm in both England and Africa causing them to risk losing everything to be together. Before this movie, I did not know much about the history of Botswana and its independence. This movie inspired me to learn more about their history and the true story, which the biographical film was based. Combined with romance, history, politics, and intrigue, this story shares an important message about a couple truly in love and of equality. Everyone should see this excellent movie. 5/5. @janmarrow1225 of the Hamilton Public Library Teen Review Board
