Between Them

Remembering My Parents

Such a lovely book. When interviewed, Ford said he wrote it to draw his parents nearer to him. There is nothing extraordinary about his parents lives, except their love for each other. As an early observer , ( and nascent writer) Ford felt like the proverbial " third" in the relationship. At 16 he watched his father die, without warning. And as an adult -mourns never to know his father adult to adult. When his mother's health fails ( living outside the 'prism of death') he says something he will regret and regret. Nothing horrible; in fact hopeful . But the moment of connection was lost. This is a quiet , mindful book about how small and large moments of our lives simultaneously leave and stay with us.
