Windfall is such a good book, it was one of the first books I read that I really loved. Alice buys her best friend Teddy a lottery ticket for fun, and he ends up winning, but with all this new money he's changing and not for the better. I love the plot of the story and how the characters slowly change it shows hurt and anger. The author Jenifer Smith is great at portraying different emotions which makes the book so much more amazing. I recommend this book if you like slow burn rom-com books. I also recommend this for ages 13+. I hope you enjoy this book, happy reading.5/5-@goodies06 of the Hamilton Public Library's Teen Review Board Alice has always loved her best friend Teddy, but she’s sure he doesn’t feel the same way about her. But on Teddy’s 18th birthday, everything has changed. What started off as a joke escalated into much more when Alice bought him a winning lottery ticket, giving him more fame and wealth than he could ever have imagined. But winning the lottery is a double-edged sword and Teddy starts to question who he can trust. Will Alice be able to steer him back on track? I was excited about this concept but was quite disappointed with the outcome. I disliked Teddy and was annoyed that he was one of the main characters. Although it was probably a realistic depiction of how a young adult would react to winning the lottery, I couldn’t understand why he did the things he did. There was a lot of character development and life lessons, but in the end, the characters will heavily impact the reader’s experience-- for better or worse. Rating: 2.5/5 @Iron_Rose of the Hamilton Public Library Teen Review Board I’ve lost my faith in contemporary books by new authors, since I’ve read so many that have failed. But “Windfall” was perfect. It was just what I wanted to read, about a trio of friends that break and bond after winning a lottery ticket. It’s not exactly exciting or different, but the relationships crafted out between every character made me feel warm, with their authenticity. You can tell the author has put her heart and soul into the phrases, that aren’t full of prose but have a deep meaning to them. The general style gave this book a star quality and the characters were all loveable and stay with you for a long time! Definitely recommend! 4/5 - @jewelreader of the Teen Review Board of the Hamilton Public Library
