This is the first book in a beautifully drawn and surprisingly complex story about a first love. The love (or is it love?) just so happens to be between two high school girls, which is an important part of the plot, but it is not the point of the plot. The relationship develops at a realistically slow pace, and both characters reflect on the idea of consent and are great examples of how couples can communicate as they talk about kisses that might have been "stolen" and how to better respect each other going forward. The cast of side characters are developed nicely making this a story with broad appeal and a lot of interesting interpersonal drama that builds over the volumes. Despite taking place in high school, the material is much tamer than many other books in the Young Adult section, which makes this an easy recommendation for just about anybody. While my 10 year old might not be interested in this, at least there is nothing in this book that I would have a problem with him seeing. Manga has a reputation for often adding sexualized content in random moments, but this story is one where that never happens. One of the later volumes does contain a small bit of nudity in the context of three students taking a bath, but even this is not sexualized.
