I had to force myself to give this as little as two stars: who chose the songs covered? only MEXICO comes off as worthy, other than the standards, YOU'VE GOT A FRIEND, and FIRE AND RAIN. the performers are rather mediocre, too, and when the man of the evening comes out to join Carole King , unannounced, and from backstage, there is a distinctly underwhelming response. well, james never claimed to be a rocker. rockers are usually the ones who generate big surges of emotion. but the claim was always that jt could certainly write a song or two. as I say, the songs chosen for this song were disappointing, even if himself had done them, himself. found myself wishing for Carly to make an appearance, for gosh sake...
