Summary:
Interesting book that looked at the various empires roman middle ages current and their relation to food and gluttony. The fact of the problem is that we cannot survive a reducaiton in food. The current cheep food era is probably not stable. We nee to pay the real cost of food and have a sustainable system. We cannot grow everything locally because of taste (avocados don't grow up north) but then we also need the food safety that comes with a global system. though farmers and workers need to get a fair wage for their work.

Interesting and easily red book on the life of Louis Pasteur. Giving over several items. Thinks I did not know he was an excellent artist, he had a stroke at 45 and was fearlessly loyal to France.

Summary:
Detailing the life of William Perkins who in 1856 discovered the color Mauve from coal tar and decided to manufacture it starting a whole new industry of chemistry. A couple of things, he made his discovery early in life, made his fortune and then dropped out after selling his company. He then spent his life in relative obscurity, though funding research and other things with his money. It is interesting to note that the problems that he had are exactly the problems that we have in todays industry. This was a very fun read but material from Perkins himself are lacking because it appears that he did now write very much but got a lot of acclaim during his lifetime. It is sad that we do not hear more a bout him.Detailing the life of William Perkins who in 1856 discovered the color Mauve from coal tar and decided to manufacture it starting a whole new industry of chemistry. Interesting book talking about the life of Daniel Stone a botanist with the nascent USDA. Talks a about a time covering the late 1800 early 1900's where scientist roamed he world looking to improve the health and commerce of the united states. An interesting story that I would like to explore further is that the Fairchilds moved to Kansas in 1879 to the university they even hosted Darwin. However the father was purged from the university due to anti-intellectual sentiments. I would like to explore this more.
Also this idea of scientific exploration and exploration. (some of the samples that Fairchild collected are the only ones left, having died out in their home country)Interesting book talking about the life of Daniel Stone a botanist with the nascent USDA.
